Maiko - Mixed Media Frame

A beautiful mixed media art frame featuring a Maiko (apprentice geisha) in mixed shades of purple.

This piece is mainly created from paper and board, but has been further embellished with ribbon pieces, crystals and beads.

For this Maiko I created her with traditional hairstyle and elaborate hair ornaments and hairpins and plain kimono with patterned collar. The hair ornaments and hairpins (kanzashi) feature over 38 paper flowers, representing cherry blossom (Sakura). A 3D paper Bira Ogi (the silver hair piece) which flutters to catch the eye of the viewer, adds additional charm and movement.

I have mostly stuck to traditional styles for the Maiko depending on their stage of training, but of course I have also added my own artistic twists. This is the second Maiko I’ve created, but no two pieces are ever the same.

Comes displayed within a white 3D deep box frame, which can be either hung portrait or free standing. Frame size is approx. 250mm x 336mm and approx. 35mm deep. Maiko measures approx. 150mm x 205mm
