The Flamenco - Wooden Carving
The Flamenco - Wooden Carving
This is the last figurine in a series of three created by wood turner A P Briggs, called The Flamenco. Created using a mix of both traditional wood turning and hand-carving methods.
The Flamenco dance is a highly expressive Spanish dance and this piece beautifully captures a swirling mid-movement with raised arms and toss of the head.
It was created using American black walnut for the body, with Sycamore used throughout in the delicate arms, head and top knot detail.
The slightly flared frilly dress was made from both walnut and sycamore which was hand carved to suggest movement. Both the hand-craved fan and castanet were also made from sycamore.
The flamenco is finally sealed with shellac and polished to a soft shine using bees wax. This piece stands at approximately 34.5 cm high.
A P Briggs, is one of our first featured artist/crafters and we are very excited to be sharing his wonderful work with you. Paul has been wood turning and craving for a number of years and particularly likes to work with more unusual woods. Paul resides in Stratford-upon-Avon, and you will often find him at the bottom of the garden in his shed surrounded by a plume of wood shavings and dust.
